My rants on the state of the union.
Defeat is automatic once galaxy is loaded.
Published on February 28, 2009 By Seablade In Sins of a Solar Empire

I downloaded the latest Galaxy Forge to change a galaxy file.  After much consternation, I finally found the place to store the galaxy files for Entrenchment.

Now, when I try to load this galaxy up, it automatically declares defeat and game over.  What have I done wrong and what's going on?

I also discovered that all you need to do is open a galaxy file, save it as some new galaxy file and when you try to load it with Entrenchment, it automatically ends in defeat.

To get galaxy files to work in vanilla Sins:

You need to put the galaxy file in your

Program Files/Stardock Games/Sins of a Solar Empire/Galaxy directory.

To get galaxy files to work in Entrenchment:

You need to put the galaxy file in your

Program Files/Stardock Games/Sins of a Solar Empire/Entrenchment/Galaxy directory.

Then you have to add it to the galaxy.manifest file in the Entrenchment directory.  This is a new step because Entrenchment uses a different system to keep track of where all the files are, to make it possible to stack mods.  Likely vanilla Sins will eventually switch over to this system.

Don't use the folder under user settings (on vista, it's part of the User directory, on XP, it's part of the Documents and Settings dir).  It will cause instant game loss, this folder is for maps created with the in-game map creator.

psugar, I tried to do that, and yet for some reason, when I start up the game, it doesn't even show up on the list of maps to choose from.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks psugar for the response and details.

However, I don't think this is entirely what is required with regards to the .manifest file.

Just as a test, I backed up the original galaxy.manifest file and then created a new one just like this:

-----

TXT
filecount 1
filename "Gaian Crescent2"

-----

There is a "Gaian Crescent2.galaxy" in the "c:\program files\stardock games\sins of  solar empire\entrenchment\galaxy" directory.  However, when I run Entrenchment, it shows no avilable games whatsoever.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I found the answer!

The information in the file is case sensitive.

filecount MUST be "fileCount" and filename MUST be "fileName" for it to work correctly.
